Kya hai TASHAN?

July 5th, 2008

I ask this questions because not a single person seemed to have praised the movie, I did not want to go and see it in the hall, and luckily for me, a few days back I had gone into an electronics store with my cousin and found the DVD for Tashan. The reason I spent the money on the movie was because the local DVD rental store has some really bad prints and considering that this is a relatively new movie, he would most definitely have the pirated version which would have people walking around in the hall or some kid crying somewhere or just plain bad quality sound and picture! So the DVD made more sense.

Saif KAreena ka Tashan

I had heard a lot of crap about the movie, about how pointless it was and how bad it was…etc. etc. etc. and I do agree with how bad the movie was and how pointless it was and how meaningless everything was, but I liked the music and Saif Ali Khan looked pretty cute and much younger than what he did in ‘Race’!

And what I am about to say now, I feel I can say it without any fear of being judged, and that would be – I think that Kareena Kapoor looks pretty good! I mean the weight-loss has given her a sultry appeal! Honestly, she was never my favourite actress before this, and neither does that feeling undergo any severe alteration after this movie, but I seriously like the way she looks! The clothes she wears sincerely compliment her and I am so glad no one tried to fit her into those fusion clothes! She looked quite good in ‘Jab We Met’ and she still does in Tashan! And after a long time I actually enjoyed watching the song and dance sequences!

Akshay Kumar and Anil Kapoor look old, haggard and DIRTY! It looks as though they haven’t had a bath in weeks (probably preparing for the role?!). Just the sight of them looks as though they have horrible body odour! I can never understand this awful trend of looking so dirty and unclean/ unshaven look! Do these men really think that they look sexier if they look dirtier?! News Flash: Unkempt and dirty stubble not a big turn on!

Some of the dialogues were funny, at least the bad English parts by Anil Kapoor were funny in the beginning, but they continued throughout the movie and got very stale by the end of it. They could easily have deleted some scenes and refrained from adding some, but, well, it’s not as if the movie made much sense either way!

Coming to the title of the film, TASHAN…they have lived up to the name, vanity of every sort (almost) was seen as Tashan! Anil Kapoor wanted to speak in English because he thought that was his Tashan, Kareena Kapoor wanted to dress sizzling because that was her Tashan, Saif Ali Khan was supposed to be this flirt who wanted (in a crude way) to score with women and he was supposed to be this Casanova of sorts (very realistic character, because there are a lot of men like him today!) and Akshay Kumar wanted this rustic and rural appeal to him…so there is a lot of TASHAN in the movie, even if there is no sense in it!

If you haven’t seen the movie yet (hall or otherwise) don’t worry, you haven’t missed much!
