Kapoor, is facing neck-to-neck competition for the ‘Leading Role Female’ actress award at the 12th Annual International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) ceremony scheduled to be held in Toronto June 23-25.
Apart from Bollywood’s other top two beauties – Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Katrina Kaif – Kapoor is also facing tough rivalry from Vidya Balan and newcomer Anushka Sharma.

Kapoor has been nominated for her unusual tomboyish character in Rohit Shetty’s romantic comedy thriller Golmaal 3.

The film’s earlier two serials were also hits at the box office and liked all around the world for its different but extraordinary comedy.

Kapoor played the lead role in the movie against Bollywood star Ajay Devgn supported by evergreen disco dancer Mithun Chakraborty, Arshad Warsi, Sharman Joshi, Tushar Kapoor, Johnny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemu, Sanjay Mishra, Ratna Pathak and Ashwini Khalsekar.

Born into the famous Kapoor family, Kareena is the daughter of Randhir Kapoor and Babita and sister of all-time hot and sexy Karishma Kapoor.

She made her acting debut in the 2000 film Refugee and since then has achieved as many as six Filmfare Awards.

Recently Kareena outsmarted hot actresses like Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra to win Stardust’s 2011 sexiest woman title.

However, in the race for the prestigious IIFA Award for the ‘leading female role’, Kapoor is facing tough competition from megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s daughter-in-law and former Miss Universe Aishwarya Rai, for her classic role in Guzaarish, and former sexiest woman Katrina Kaif for her character in Ranjeeti.

Newcomer Anushka Sharma, who worked with superstar Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, poses yet another threat for Kareena, for Sharma has also been nominated for her masti-filled lead role in Band Baaja Baaraat released in December 2010.

Produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by Maheesh Sharma, Band Baaja Baaraat is full of mauj, masti and dhamaal. Anushka Sharma plays a 20-year graduate and ambitious girl who wants to start her own wedding planning business.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who once again appeared with Hrithik Roshan in Bhansali’s extremely emotional and heart-breaking film Guzaarish, is the biggest threat for Kareena Kapoor. Rai played a truly classic and very special role.

In Guzaarish, she was seen as the nurse of Hrithik Roshan, a magician who becomes a quadriplegic when a trick goes wrong.

But Kareena Kapoor stays the front-runner as one of the most popular Bollywood celebrities, and her performances have always raised her to establish her as a style icon for young girls and women. This should be one interesting race.

Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Heroine’ continues to make news. After Kareena Kapoor opted out of the project, there’s talk that Madhur has decided to cast either Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or Katrina Kaif in the coveted role. Rumor has it that Madhur is expected to narrate the gist of the subject to Ash, before he meets Katrina. But Madhur denies the development completely.

Says the talented director, “Frankly, I’ve yet to decide what to make next. Therefore, the question of casting Ash or Katrina for ‘Heroine’ just doesn’t arise. In fact, I haven’t even approached Ash or Katrina for the project in question.” He adds, “I am still vacillating what to make next. It could be a love story, it could be a comedy, it could be a realistic film… nothing is finalized. In fact, ‘Heroine’ may or may not happen immediately, since I’ve yet to take a call on it.”

Whoever said that actress can’t be friends were right! At a recent award function, cold vibes between Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor almost froze the temperature around!

No kidding this one, but eyewitnesses present at the venue said that junior Mrs Bachchan completely ignored Kareena and walked past Bebo without even acknowledging her. The Kapoor girl in turn also did not make any attempt to greet Ash and pretended to see through the light eyed beauty.

Now we all remember that before Ash became the Bachchan bahu, Abhishek was engaged to Kareena’s sister Karisma. The two were almost heading to the altar when the wedding was called off. Since then the Kapoor khandaan and the Bachchans haven’t shared the best of the relationship.

So, can’t blame Ash or Bebo to share such vibes. And it seems unlikely that these two would ever be on friendly terms.

On one hand Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has gone slow on signing any new film. On the other hand there is Kareena Kapoor, the actress sitting right at the top, who is on a relentless pace when it comes to picking up assignments by the dozens. At last count, she has signed at least half a dozen new films, all of which could release over next 18 months.

Says a trade observer, “The girl would now be seen with all the five Khans (Salman, Shah Rukh, Aamir, Saif, Imran) this year. Then there are also chances of her doing a film with Ajay Devgn. It seems like there is one big thrust that she is giving to her career before she get married in 2012. May be she wants to take a decent break then.”

One isn’t surprised about her marriage news though as she has publicly declared about her plans to tie a knot with Saif Ali Khan next year next year. Perhaps working in multiple films with all top Khans is her way of telling the world that she is pretty much on the top of the world even at she stares down a decade long career that she has now left behind.

Thoda break lo Bebo! You may be having all the fun while working but a break is something that is only going to keep you running hale and hearty.

There weren’t any major surprises when it came to those leading ladies who found their way into the Top-10 charts. The ones who have been doing consistently well over a period of time (Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif) continued to stay at the top; an unusual suspect like Anushka Sharma made her way in (Band Baaja Baaraat, Badmaash Company) while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was out of it with three flops in a row (Raavan, Action Replayy, Guzaarish).

Few days back we heard that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is going to replace take Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in place of Kareena Kapoor in his new mega film, Bajirao Mastani. Now another film maker, Vishal Bhardwaj contacted Aishwarya Rai to act against Saif Ali Khan, lover of Kareena Kapoor.

In fact for last 14 years Vishal wants Aishwarya in his film but due to date problem or Aishwarya Rai is not interested in the script they could not work together. But if this time Ash is ready to work with Saif than will see a new pair in bollywood film. Besides this Vishal contacted Aishwarya with two more scripts. One is based on William sex pier’s Helmet and he wishes to Hritik in this film.

People have seen Vishal entering in to ‘Janak’ a place were Bachchan’s held business meeting. Sources says that Vishal had gone there to meet Aishwarya where they discussed on the script. It is not known finally what happened.

A few days ago TOI reported that Kareena Kapoor was all set to replace Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s revived ambitious project Bajirao Mastani.

Now it’s Ash’s chance to strike back. Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj has approached the green-eyed actress to pair up with Kareena’s beau Saif Ali Khan for a film. Vishal, we hear, has been chasing Ash for 14 years now, but the two never worked together owing to date constraints or because the projects did not interest Ash.

If Ash agrees to the film with Saif this time, it will be interesting to see this new pair on screen. Apart from this film, the acclaimed filmmaker has also approached her with two more scripts and one concept which is his take on William Shakespeare’s cult tragedy, Hamlet, for which he plans to cast Hrithik Roshan.

Vishal was spotted entering Janak (Bachchans, usually, hold business meetings at this Juhu bungalow) with a script in hand. This has set the ball in motion. Said a source, “Vishal was indeed there to meet with Ash. It went on for an hour at least where they discussed and dissected the offers that he had for her. As of now things are very hush hush.”

Rumours are ripe that Madhur Bhandarkar may choose Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan for his much talked about film Heroine.

With Kareena Kapoor dilly dallying due to some intimate scenes, Bhandarkar is forced to keep his options open. He has also reportedly spoken with with his Fashion heroine Priyanka Chopra.

“At present, I am very busy with Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji and am not working on any other film yet. All these reports are wrong.” Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji releases in January.

Exasperated by Bollywood sassy babe Kareena Kapoor’s repeated requests to tone down the steamy scenes in ‘Heroine’, Madhur Bhandarkar is left with no option but to find a suitable replacement of Bebo and what better than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan!

Given the fact that Kareena’s current work commitments make her busy for more than a year, Madhur recently had a covert meeting with Aishwarya to woo her for ‘Heroine’. Buzz has it that Madhur does not have much time as his producers want to start with the project – with or without Kareena. However, it’s Madhur who is desperately waiting for Kareena’s approval. Apparently, Kareena too wants to work for Madhur but is unable to adjust her jam-packed diary for ‘Heroine’.

However, given the gravity of the issue, Madhur downplayed the news of his meeting Aishwarya. Talking to a daily, Madhur said, “I`m still busy with my film and have no time to meet anyone. I will start meeting people soon.”

Meanwhile, a source said, “Ash has never done a movie in which she was a second preference. Let`s see what Madhur can do and who he can rope in if Kareena falls through.”

Who will be Madhur’s heroine – will it be Kareena or Aishwarya? Watch this space soon!

Amir Khan will be soon seen in a suspense drama directed by Reema Kagti. The film will find Amir in the role of a cop. But the news that is making sparks fly is the battle between top two female notches of the B-Town.

Initially Kareena Kapoor was thought of for the lead, but then the casting head gave a second thought and revised plans to hold Aishwarya Rai Bachchan too as a strong contender. The casting has not been finalized yet.

Kareena, the style diva has built up an eminent stand in the industry, also Aishwarya, one of the most beautiful women on earth, has done some fair amount of serious acting.

It will be interesting to see which Bolly diva manages to add a feather to their cap staring opposite the perfectionist and an aspiring Oscar Awards contender of the industry, Amir Khan.

Amir is thinking of making the best use of the opportunity by considering both the actresses for the film as he finds scope for two to dig in.

Well, a big name will obviously have a big name opposite it but when multiple are considered the thing to be noticed is who takes away the better and meatier role!
