So open and blunt. Bollywood celebrities were never so candid as they are on Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan show. Many statements by the celebs on the show have made news and now what’s hot from the show is Ajay Devgan’s advice to Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan: “Don’t get married”.

Like Shahrukh Khan, Ajay too went solo for Karan Johar’s show. Though wifey Kajol was missing, the episode turned out to be very entertaining, thanks to Ajay’s sense of humour and quick answers.

When Karan asked Ajay during the rapid fire round what piece of marital advice he would like to give Saif and Kareena, he said ‘Don’t get married’. That’s shocking because Ajay is happily married to Kajol or was he hinting that things change between couples after marriage. Or was it just an off-the-cuff remark made in jest.

Whatever it may be, the host Karan Johar couldn’t dig the matter further as it was a rapid fire round; both the couples are also his good friends.

Bollywood stars Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are very upset these days as their real life characters have been portrayed as animated characters in the forth coming Ajay Devgn and Kajol starrer movie titled Toonpur Ka Superrhero.

According to reports, the movie has Ajay Devgn playing the role of a super star and in one of the sequences Ajay the superstar is seen shooting for his film Omkara.

Since the film also had Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor as prime actors, Toonpur Ka Superrhero has the two playing characters from Omkara but in animated form. Saif’s animated character also has a tattoo of Kareena on his hand and Kareena’s animated character is shown as having a great attraction for Ajay Devgn’s character in the film.

Now reports are that such a thing about their characters in the animated form and the spoof on the tattoo in the movie was something which the couple was not aware of at all. It was only after someone close to them went and saw the film and came and told Saif and Kareena that they came to know about the fact.

Saif was quite hurt as he is quite a close friend of Ajay Devgn and would have expected to be told about such a fact from him, moreover the producer of Toonpur Ka Superrhero –Kumar Mangat is also quite close to Saif, as he had produced Omkara too which had Saif and Kareena in it.

Kareena Kapoor on her part was not too pleased as recently she and Ajay Devgn had bonded quite well during the shooting of the Rohit Shetty flick Golmaal 3’.

However, there has been no initiative towards making it obvious to the film maker or the actors of Toonpur –about their feelings, as reportedly Saif and Kareena are waiting to see the film themselves before going into any kind of speculations further in the matter.

Karan Johar has begun work on his next production called Short Term Shaadi, which stars Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor in lead roles.

The movie, produced under the Dharma Productions banner and directed by Shakun Batra, has gone on floors. Short Term Shaadi also stars Boman Irani.

In 2010, Dharma Productions released three films namely My Name Is Khan, I Hate Luv Storys and We Are Family. Dharma is also co-producing an animation film with Prana Studios called Koochie Koochie Hota Hai, which will have voices by Shah Rukh khan, Kajol and Rani Mukherji and will be directed by Tarun Mansukhani. The story is by Johar.

So we are not surprised to see Bebo and Aamir take out the competition on Stardust’s list of “Stars Who Redefined Bollywood” in 2010. Kareena Kapoor says she hasn’t been doing good roles because she knows she is a good actress and doesn’t have to prove it to anyone.

Loud mouth Kareena, who turned 30 in September, made her histrionic brag in an interview with CNN IBN after host Rajiv Masand observed that Kareena’s ambitions appear to have changed.

Masand quizzed her on why she was going for big ticket movies such as RA.One, Agent Vinod and Bodyguard, instead of seeking challenging roles such as the ones that she did in Chameli, Dev and Omkara.

“Everyone knows that I am a good actor. I have proved it time and again. I can always come back to those kinds of roles,” Kareena replied without a trace of humility.

Bebo went on to explain that talent doesn’t matter these days. At the end of the day what matters is the box office success or failure of a film.

“How many people are concerned about an actress’ talent? Let’s be honest here.”

Bebo went on to say that other actresses like Katrina Kaif (Rajneeti) and Priyanka Chopra (Kaminey, Saat Khoon Maaf) are now getting good roles only because she cannot be paired with Ranbir Kapoor.

Because of it, “they are having a field day!” says Bebo.

Johar and Kajol also worked together in the family tear-jerker Khabi Khushi Khabie Gham, which starred Kareena Kapoor. After they put their differences aside and worked on the flop Kurbaan, Kapoor and Kajol were, undoubtedly, the only choices for the leading roles in We Are Family, inspired by the Hollywood flick Stepmom, which featured Julia Roberts and Susan Sarandon. The movie also marks the directorial debut of Siddharth Malhotra, who was confidently supported by Dharma Productions. We Are Family, which ranks as one of the biggest films of the year, also stars Arjun Ramphal, who is having a great run at the box office after being highly appreciated in Houseful and Rajneeti.

STORY:

The movie poses an interesting question – can two women run a house? Well, that’s the interesting dilemma that erupts in this powerful drama about the joys and sorrows of marriage and motherhood. The movie opens with a key pointer that Maya (Kajol) and Aman (Ramphal) were once married with three kids, but since their divorce three years ago, they have constantly shared a pleasant relationship. When Aman introduces a young and beautiful fashion designer named Shreya (Kapoor) to his ex-wife and children, all hell breaks loose as their first encounter turns out to be a disaster. However, when Maya learns of a tragedy, she makes difficult decisions that tears her world apart. What was once a happy family is about to undergo their most difficult journey ever.

DIRECTION:

I remember the immense excitement the first promotion of this movie created across the world. I remember raving like a typical Bollywood fanatic counting the days and nights before the released. But one thing is sure – it has not met my expectations, but actually superseded them.

Though inspired by Stepmom, Malhotra has carefully added the respected Indian values and cultures, and does a perfect job by balancing his characters in a riveting script. It’s essentially the relationship between the two women that makes this movie hold tremendous appeal, especially for South African audiences. Maya and Shreya have different qualities and circumstances, equally loving and hating each other at the same time. It’s a compelling tale with its fair share of cute and adorable light-hearted moments.

PERFORMANCES:

When Malhotra insisted he was not going to make this movie without Kajol, it was the right decision. I may be biased to the actress but her work is nothing short of impeccable. She is outstanding as Maya and gives another superlative performance, displaying so many emotions that cannot be matched by many other actresses. Kajol should be a front contender thus far in the category of Best Actress of the year.

Kapoor is a delight and the perfect choice as Shreya – she is sexy, smart and confident. Kapoor proves she will always rank as one of the greatest in this challenging industry. When these two women come together in the dramatic moments, their chemistry and acting skills are nothing short of world-class. Despite being slightly sidelined, Ramphal holds his owns with a restrained and subdued performance. He scores in the emotional scenes and lets his facial expressions do the talking, and he is superb. The kids are adorable and make the movie more appealing. The casting coup has to be the movie’s strongest point. Thankfully, the leading ladies bonded well, while shooting progressed without any cat-fights.

WHAT I LIKED:

Everything from start to finish but some of the most memorable scenes include the party and the introduction of Shreya, the bond between Maya and the kids, the tragedy that occurs and events that follow the family having fun, dinner with the family and a masterful climax which will naturally increase the sale of tissues. The climax has to rank as one of the most clever and heart-breaking ever.

OVERALL:

I remember many years ago having a debate with colleague Varshan Sookhun as we disagreed about two actresses in the industry. While Sookhun was a huge Manisha Koirala fan, I predicted that Kajol would rule the industry for many years. Luckily, my prediction has come true. Take the family along, take the neighbours, take your friends because somewhere in our lives we all have come across a Maya and Shreya – two different women with the same passion and devotion to their family. We Are Family is a tear-jerker that ranks as one the most electrifying movies this year.

By this time it is well known that Dharma Production’s latest offering We Are Family starring Kajol, Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Rampal is a Bollywood remake of Hollywood’s Stepmom that starred Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts. It is also quite clear that the stars have claimed time and again that the film is not a replica of the Hollywood blockbuster.

Recently, Kareena Kapoor has taken it upon herself to claim that her role of the stepmom is far removed from the same role that was essayed by Julia Roberts. “There are no similarities whatsoever between Shreya, the character I play in We Are Family, and the role essayed by Julia Roberts in Stepmom. Of course, given the fact that We Are Family is an official adaptation of Stepmom, comparisons will be there but I have played this part the way I would have done it. In fact, besides the fact that both (the character played by Julia and Kareena) are career driven women there are no similarities,” Kareena stated during promotions of the film.

Now, it is already common knowledge that each actor plays each role different with new flavour and zest, but is that enough for Kareena to claim that her role is completely different than Julia’s? We will have to see to find out!

Kareena outshone Kajol in We Are Family: Two Bollywood divas Kareena Kapoor and Kajol were paired opposite each other in “We Are Family” and sources state that Kareena’s role was preferred over Kajol.

Audiences felt Kareena’s charm more than Kajol. Sources state that Kareena has been roped in for Ajay Devgan’s upcoming directorial venture. Ajay Devgan chose Kareena over Kajol.

They were paired together in “Omkara”. The duo will be seen together in Ashtavinayak’s “Golmaal Returns”.

“Golmaal Returns” is all set to hit theatres next year. Ajay wants to recreate the magic of “Omkara” so he opted for Kareena.

Hope this pair once again creates the magic on silver screen.

Dedutant director Siddharth Malhotra of the recent release We Are Family, has already started planning for his next film. Initially, he wanted to make a film with Kajol but she is on maternity leave so the director has opted to work on a family comedy starring veteran star Rishi Kapoor.

This movie by Siddharth will concentrate on a father and a daughter. The director wants Rishi Kapoor’s niece and Bollywood babe Kareena Kapoor to play the role of the daughter of the actor. However, the casting of daughter is not finalized yet. But the director is reportedly hell bent on creating cinematic history by casting Kareena’s famous uncle as her father.

Malhotra was quoted saying that he wanted to work with Kajol on his next film but as she won’t be able to work for a long time, he chose to work on a family comedy. The director has even completed his comedy script and will cast Rishi Kapoor as the father of a much younger girl. He said that he would work on this family comedy before doing the film with Kajol.

Siddharth wrote the other film keeping Kajol in mind and he does not want to cast anyone else in her place. In fact, for his family comedy, Malhotra wants to cast his best friend actor Shahid Kapoor. Both of them have been good friends since they worked together on Sooraj Barjatya’s Vivah.

Speaking about Shahid Kapoor, the director said that he was the Associate Director of Vivah and since then they have been close to each other. The director said that they have become much closer now and he respects the judgment of Shahid.

Siddharth was quoted saying that he cannot confirm anything before Karan Johar reads my script. However, he assured that if given a chance he can present Shahid in a way no one else has done before.
