After Chameli and Dev, Kareena Kapoor is all set to don the de-glam avatar again.
As both these films have been close to Kareena’s heart – for the unique roles, the awards and the critical acclaim they got – she now has agreed to be the plain Jane in Sudhir Mishra’s next, Dhruv . The film also stars Farhan Akhtar and Mishra’s favourite, Chitrangada Singh.
Sudhir reveals: “It is a love story set against a political background. It is about a man and a woman and their journey amid a political scenario full of turmoils. It is about how their love for each other and for their respective parties bind and separate them.”

In a casting coup of sorts, director Sudhir Mishra has roped in Kareena Kapoor to star with Chitrangada Singh for his film Dhruv.
While his other films Yeh Saali Zindagi (earlier titled Dil Darbadar) and Tera Kya Hoga Johnny? are yet to hit the screens, he is set to start his next project, Dhruv shortly. He has signed on Farhan Akhtar, Kareena Kapoor and Chitrangada Singh and its shooting schedule will begin after the completion of Don 2. Explaining why he chose to cast Farhan, the director says, “I chose Farhan because he is a fine actor. He plays the title role, Dhruv.”
As for the plot, the director gives an intriguing reply. He says, “It’s Devdas meets Macbeth meets Hamlet meets the Indian political scenario.”

The latest buzz from B-town is that Bollywood babe Kareena Kapoor is set to hit the red light district! Kapoor plans to do so for her next flick, Heera Mandi. Kareena is going to play the role of a sex worker. Based on her strong performance as a prostitute in Sudhir Mishra’s film Chameli in 2003, it makes perfect sense that she would be chosen to play a role of this kind again. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film reunites Kareena Kapoor with Abhishek Bachchan onscreen. Kareena made her debut in the film Refugee where she starred in the lead opposite Abhishek.

Kareena Kapoor ought to be flattered. She is being sought rather desperately by filmmaker Sudhir Mishra for his film Dhruv.
The movie will be a modern day interpretation of Devdas. And before you yawn and mutter “not again!”, let us tell you that Mishra promises to come up with a very new and fresh take on Devdas.
In Mishra’s words, it’s going to be more of Shakespeare’s Hamlet and Sarat Chandra’s Devdas.
To play the role of Pooja (modern-day Paro), Sudhir is seeking Kareena Kapoor. And he says that no other actress except Kareena can do the role because it was written with her in mind.

Farhan Akhtar and Sudhir Mishra won’t make Dhruv, the new version of Devdas, without Kareena Kapoor as the contemporary Paro.
There was some thought over shifting Mishra’s favourite Chitrangada into Kareena’s role, but the producer-director has decided that he will not make Dhruv until Kareena agrees to do the role.

“It works only with Kareena, no one else. I’m willing to go down on my knees to get her to do the film. But she can’t say no. It’s a role specially written for her,” says Mishra.

So even as we wait for the Kapoor lass to live upto her image, ace taskmasters like Farhan Akhtar and Sudhir Mishra are intensely chasing the actress for their modern version of ‘Devdas’ titled ‘Dhruv’. And Kareena has been offered the role of none other than Paro.
According to sources, even though Mishra’s favourite Chitrangada was initially thought for fitting into Kareena’s role, the producer-director team decided against it.
